SPOKANE, Wash. – Lilac City Legends is pleased to announce that Jeneva Thaxton has been hired as the new Head Coach.

Head Coach Jeneva Thaxton

Thaxton brings Pac-12 team captain experience from the University of Washington women’s basketball team, and championship winnings from Lewis and Clark High School in 2007 and 2008. Thaxton was the assistant women’s basketball coach at Grinnell College, in Grinnell, Iowa from 2014 to 2016, and previously the head basketball coach at Fusion Athletics in Denver, Colorado.

“We’re very excited to bring Jeneva on as our next head coach,” said Michael Bethely, president of the Lilac City Legends. “Her knowledge and dedication to the game is going to continue to take the team in the direction we expect it to go. She is a proven winner and I know she will be essential in contributing to our players, the organization and the community.”

Thaxton replaces Paul Butorac, who formally played basketball for Eastern Washington University and assumed the Lilac City Legends head coach position in January 2020. “Paul’s leadership has been greatly appreciated and the team recognizes his aspirations for a new opportunity,” said Bethely.

At every stop along her basketball journey, whether as a player or a coach, Thaxton was a part of a winning culture, and with her strong Northwest ties she will be a great leader of the Lilac City Legends.

“I am excited to be a part of the only professional basketball team in Spokane. I know the passion for basketball Spokane has from having been a benefactor of the wonderful basketball movement ever present in the Inland Northwest,” said Thaxton. “What Michael and the Lilac City Legends are building on the court and within the community align with my values of perfect effort for self and the collective.” Join Coach Thaxton at the inaugural Lilac City Legends Blue & Teal kickoff game this Saturday, April 17, at 7:00 PM streamed at lilaccitylegends.com.
